MARQUETRY AND VENEER COURSE with Paul Schurch

Paul Schurch received his formal training in Marquetry and Veneer in Europe working side by side with some of the finest craftsmen in the world. The experience of working with these masters and journeymen was incredibly inspiring and had a profound affect on his ability as a future teacher. Even after returning to the states to start his custom furniture business he still continued to travel once a year to Northern Italy to work in a small shop specializing in production marquetry for the furniture trade. Today, he is a sought after teacher and has been published in many magazines and including a current feature article in this 2009 Spring Woodshop News. He has produced over 250 pieces of custom furniture in his shop to date. For many years now he has been teaching furniture making, veneer work and marquetry. He is dedicated to the task of passing on the knowledge he has received from the many fine teachers and masters of the trades.

This is an intensive advance course so I am asking that you pick up Paul Schurch’s DVD on marquetry (I have them in stock) so that you have a basic fundamental knowledge that we can build on top of. Study it and own the information and we will be able to move so much further in the course. In the five-day course Marquetry and Inlay are explored in depth with emphasis on design, theory, and hands on techniques that will be applied to individual projects that each student will create from supplied drawings. In the Decorative Veneering segment, Paul will show students what is possible in the art of veneering in your class project. Each student will learn basic veneering up to advanced inlay and border work techniques depending on individual skill and experience.
